INSTRUCTION FOR
Skeet & Trap / Sporting Clays & FITASC / SCTP / 4H & High School Teams / Coaches / Corporate

Marvin Spinks, a full time professional shooting coach and instructor, has dedicated his life to help athletes and coaches reach their goals.   His study of modern coaching methodology, technology and sports sciences keeps “Next Level Training” evolving all of the time. Continuous study of sports vision, sports physiology and sport psychology keeps athletes and coaches on the cutting edge of training.  He has coached individual athletes, teams and coaches all over the country in American and Olympic shotgun disciplines and has been fortunate to help them win district, regional, state and national championships.

He began his shooting career at age fourteen where he shot in his first National Championship and was introduced to members of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU).  By age sixteen he was traveling to Ft Benning, GA to train with AMU on a regular basis.  Because of this training with world class athletes he learned to think at a different level than most junior shooters.

With this training Marvin was able to win State, Regional, National and International titles. In 1978 Marvin won his first Junior National Championship. In 1979 he won the first Jr Olympic Championships at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) and was named to the US Team. That summer he competed in the 2nd USOC National Sports Festival in Colorado Springs receiving an individual bronze medal and leading the South Team to the gold medal. In 1980 he won his first International Gold Medal at the 1980 Benito, Juarez Championships Mexico City.

Attending West Virginia University on a shooting scholarship he was named a double All-American and two years later became a member of the AMU where intense emphasis was placed on the mental aspect of shooting and coaching.  Lanny Basham, Zig Zigler, Bill Krilling and others drilled mental exercises into the US Team members’ to elevate their performances.

At the AMU, Marvin was able to study world class shotgun athletes like Dan Carlisle, Mathew Drike and the study coaching techniques of the famous AMU shotgun coach Burl Branham.  Upon retiring from international shooting he started the Center Shot Shooting School.

In 1998 he was able to put “NEXT LEVEL TRAINING” methods into practice full time at the Callaway Garden Gun Club (CGGC) where he started the CGGC Shotgun Shooting School, which served competitive shooters, garden guests, and corporate groups.

Marvin has taught more than 3,500+ students during more than 9,500+ hours of USA Shooting (USAS), National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA), National Skeet Shooters Association (NSSA), Amateur Trap Association (ATA), and Federation Internationale De Tir Aux Armes Sportives De Chase (FITASC) instruction.

Marvin is the only coach in the country certified by both international and domestic National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) ISSF, NRA/USAS, ATA, NSCA and NSSA. He was named to the NRA/USAS National Coach Development Staff (NCDS) by HQ Moody in 2006 and has taught more than 150 NRA/USAS coach candidates to date. He is one of the youngest NSCA Level III instructors in the country and was a staff instructor at the 2004 and 2005 Team USA Super Schools at NSCA headquarters

Marvin is now one of only sixty shotgun coaches worldwide who is recognized by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as an Internationally Certified Shotgun Coach. The ISSF is the international governing body of Olympic shooting. The 11th ISSF Academy coaches' course was one week long (Nov. 23 - 30, 2007). Thirty-one coaches from fourteen nations came together for the course at the Kuortane Sports Institute in Kuortane, Finland.

Marvin consults in Youth /Coach Development™ for several state Scholastic Clay Target Programs including Arizona, Tennessee, Georgia, California and several national organizations. He is a graduate of the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) with a Bronze level designation and holds a coaching certification from the Georgia High School Association (GHSA).
